In 1610, the population of the U.S. was 350. By the time Abraham Lincoln signed the Yosemite Land Act in 1864, that number had grown to over 31 million.

Seeing the expansive growth of the nation, he sought to protect at least some of the unsettled land for future generations. That tract in northern California eventually became a large part of Yosemite National Park. Today, 63 protected areas congressionally designated as national parks, and more than 400 other offshoots of the system loosely so designated welcome approximately 300 million visitors each year.

The parks range from world-renowned landmarks such as Yosemite, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon and Great Smoky Mountains National Parks to lesser known but marvelous parks, including Petrified Forest in Arizona, Crater Lake in Oregon and Denali in Alaska. The different sites offer a variety of topographical delights, from arches and sand dunes to mountains and tropical rainforest ecosystems. And some boast a number of features. Take Yosemite, with its mountains, valleys, meadows, waterfalls and streams.

We particularly love Yosemite National Park because its within driving distance of San Francisco and has more than 800 miles of hiking trails. Some people’s idea of a great vacation is lying on a beach or bar hopping in a major city. Enjoy! In our line of work, we can almost see people relax and breathe more freely as they gaze at Yosemite’s magnificent sequoia trees or at one of the country’s highest waterfalls. We see the stress of the city gradually diminish and recognize almost a new level of health. There’s just something about communing with nature. Seriously, some people actually look younger.

And there’s no nature like you’ll find in Yosemite National Park. You can enjoy the popular sights with the crowds or hike into the backcountry, where you truly can revive your spirit. Follow up an invigorating hike with a great campfire meal, interesting conversation and a look at the Milky Way as you’ve never seen it before. We supply all the camping equipment and the expertise.
