It used to be that a person worked for a company for 45 or 50 years, then retired. In recognition of that service, the company traditionally would foot the bill for a retirement party and give the retiree a commemorative watch or other memento to show its appreciation.

The party alone could cost $5,000, $10,000 or even $20,000 or more, depending on the venue, food, entertainment and number of guests. That list should include co-workers and family members. And you really shouldn’t exclude friends, who surely want to join in celebrating this milestone.

Today, companies and workers don’t seem to have the same loyalty as in days gone by, so it’s even more significant if an employee has worked a long number of years and is retiring. We have a suggestion to make that retirement more memorable and significant and less expensive than the traditional plan.
